App

Web based app for screen sharing using bit maps

Used tools, methods and technologies:

  • HTML, JS
  • Server communication

This project was partly research for the final project. I wanted to see how big of a problem in visibility is the reduced number of pixels of a mechanical TV. And I want my device to have multiple displaying modes, including screen share for playing games on it, especially DOOM. Thats where server-based wireless sharing of a video comes handy.

Most of this idea came up from this take on a mechanical TV by bitluni and I mostly use his implementation of the app. I added more modifications and functions. A lot of time was also spend to make movig picture sharing work, not just static pictures.

I ended up not implementing bitmap solution because I saw problems with the platform I choose. Great about it was the ease of sharing and displaying shared output using HTML properties like Canvas and srcObject.

Picture shows accurate ilustration of image quality prediction on mechanical TV. Both in number of pixels and dimensions. Yes, its gonna be small.

It was great tryout but it was lot of pain for small result. But the gain for me was better understanding what my future app will have to be and that I will make it in C/C++ for better control over pipe-lining a optimalization.
